CORPORATE PROFILE

Message from the President

MR. BERNARDO C. TREBOL

Thriving in adversities. Seeing opportunities in change.

The Philippine Sugar Industry is at a crucial crossroads. The need to adapt to emerging realities is an urgency that cannot anymore be brushed aside.

Changes in global weather patterns have disrupted traditional farm practices. Climate change has become an inevitable “new normal” and it is creating havoc to the way we do things.

Meanwhile, every year, we see a good number of hectares of land being converted to other uses. With a steady decline in hectarage planted with sugarcane, securing a consistent stream of cane supply is becoming harder and harder over time.

Reliable sources of farm hands are also dwindling. Farms will eventually rely more and more in mechanical equipment as alternatives to human labor.

Competition is fierce. Locally, every mill is struggling to maintain its competitive edge by becoming more efficient or more innovative in its operations. Internationally, sugar coming in from other countries costs less than what we produce.

But we at First Farmers are not new to change nor adverse to seemingly difficult challenges.

Fifty-five years ago, our Founding Fathers also faced certain dilemma, albeit of different nature than what we have now. The result? It gave birth to First Farmers Milling Company and eventually, the First Farmers Holding Corporation!

FFHC is made up of sturdier stuff and its men and women are up to the task in meeting the challenges of our times.

I am confident that out of these new realities will come out new opportunities that will make us grow more as an organization and make us better and stronger as a company.

In our veins run the pioneering spirit of our founders and the innovative restlessness of our people.

For sure, the threats being faced by our industry are tough and it will take the best of all of us to confront and surmount it. But I am optimistic about our future together. We have 55 years of experience and lessons to prove it!

Happy 55th Anniversary to all of us!

Message from the General Manager

MR. JOSE ROJO G. ALISLA

Investing in Our Future

Running our operations at First Farmers Holding Corporation (FFHC) is always something to look forward to everyday. There is never a dull moment. We learn to be on our toes, always putting our best foot forward, anticipating what comes next, seeing to it that every individual and every unit of our organization runs in harmony with the rest.

At the end of the day, we always learn something new.

FFHC is among the top producers of the best raw and refined sugar in the country and we are as committed as ever in our pursuit for excellence and quality in all our products and services.

We have invested and continue to invest on two of our most important assets – our people and our facilities.

We already have the right mix of experience and young blood in our organization. Our programs on synergy, empowerment, and innovation have resulted to a more cohesive and dynamic workforce, empowered plant leadership teams, and a human resource that bring in new perspectives and outlook as we navigate the “new normals” of the future.

At FFHC, everyday is an opportunity to grow, personally and professionally.

We never stop improving. Our annual capital expenditures for equipment and facilities are testament to our commitment to become more efficient in order to produce the kind of quality products and services that our clients need. For us, good enough is never enough. We will always continue to push ourselves further.

One of the main reasons why FFHC thrives and continue to be among the leading innovators in the industry today is because of the nature of its foundation. The company is owned and run by sugar planters.

Its feet are firmly grounded to earth, much like the roots of sugarcane plants. In their collective wisdom are wealth of farm experience that have spanned several generations. We continue to be guided by their wisdom. Their continued support serves as the foundation and pillars of our successes.

The FFHC family looks forward to the future with a shared aspiration to become the best sugar manufacturing company, operated on and manned by the best organization, and firmly committed to its corporate social responsibility towards its stakeholders.
